Do You Make Mistakes in Business and Life? Great…Fail Forward! I grew up like everyone thinking that making mistakes was a bad thing. Society and school surely did not teach anything different that’s for sure! The more I grew the more I learned that mistakes were human and not only that they could be an asset to you; that is if you learned from your mistakes, whether business mistakes or life mistakes, and took Action to move forward. So, when I make mistakes in business and life how do I fail forward?
How do you move forward, I would ask myself? I learned to be successful in life and business the best thing to do is to find someone who was successful and model what he/she did. I also learned that one must develop an altruistic attitude and work to solve your customers’ problems versus just selling your services or product. Put their needs first and provide them value first and build a relationship before any bringing up your service was discussed.
I learned online marketing from an education company that’s method of operations was congruent with mine. They not only produce value but they have a stable of 6,7, & 8 figure earners that provide training to all about what has worked and is still working for them. Most businesses want to learn more about how to use Social Marketing, specifically Facebook, to increase their customer base and make more money through Attraction Marketing or sometimes know as Inbound Marketing>>>
I’ve also found that having the right mindset is crucial to me for life and business. In the rest of this post I paraphrased a talk by one of my favorite speakers named Les Brown….no, not the band! Did I just date myself?
Les is famous for saying that “…no matter what you are facing know that you've got something special, you've got greatness in you! It's possible that you can live your dream, it's possible you can do this, you can make this happen no matter how bad it is, or how bad it gets. YOU ARE GOING TO MAKE IT!”
Your dreams are possible; you have to say that to yourself every day and feed your mind with positive educational books and surround yourself with people of the same ilk. Feed your faith and your doubts will starve to death! Say to yourself it's possible, it's possible, it's possible, even when you have no evidence to point to that says it is!
There is nothing as powerful as a made up mind. It's a struggle some time to do that especially when you have people around you telling you that it's not possible that you can't do it and they're constantly pointing out your failures of the past, constantly reminding you of all of the things that you don't have going for you.
One of my favorite stories to illustrate this is the story of the two little boys that were playing on some ice during the winter and as they got further out on this ice one fell through the the thin ice. So, the little fellow that was still on top of the ice was trying to save his little buddy and he couldn't reach him. He was trying to pull him as he could see him through the thin ice as he got further away from him. He was struggling and and he couldn't reach him and was trying to break the ice and he couldn't do it. He looked around and he saw a tree in the distance. He ran and climbed the tree and broke off an enormous branch. He came back and and savagely beat the ice until it broke. He miraculously saved his friend and when the paramedics came and they were able to revive this little boy. The paramedics were scratching their heads trying to figure out this little puny kid could go up in a tree and break off a branch this size and then come back and beat and break the ice and save his friend—it was just miraculous . An old guy who was there said I can tell you how he did it…There was no one here to tell him he couldn’t do it.
What could all of us do if we did not have the naysayers in our lives! What if we believed naively like that little boy that it was possible? What would you do if if failure was not on the table?
Most people are not accumulating wealth and are living far below their potential not because they don't have the capacity but because they don't believe they can have anymore than what they now have.
That's why we don’t listen to the naysayers but transform ourselves renewing our mind every day. You've got to sell yourself on that it's possible and restructure your thinking every day.
What are you doing unconsciously that you don't even know?
Les said the hardest thing he did was NOT to earn a million dollars, the most difficult thing was to BELIEVE it could happen to him. Normally, when we can go to an event to learn how to be more successful and know we can do it by the end! Then we head back to our car or get home and we say to ourselves “you can’t do that, your not smart enough, you don’t have the money, what makes you think you can do that?
So, what happens? We go back to living a life of mediocrity because we don’t want to get out of our comfort zone.
How do we break out of that to reach your goals? We have to recondition our minds. Saying to ourselves each morning “Good Things Are Going To Happen To Me Today!” Wwe live in a world where we believe that bad things are supposed to happen to us. We need to watch what what we say, never say I'm broke say I'm overcoming a cashflow problem! Why can’t we dwell on what we WANT not what we DON’T WANT? You gotta Believe and take Actions to get there!
I think it's very important that we begin to learn how to create wealth (not for selfish reasons). I believe that a lack of money is the root of all evil! People steal for money, people have killed for money, people go to jail for money. Every time the unemployment goes up in those areas where there is high unemployment that's what you have the highest incidence of crime and violence. I like Zig Ziglar’s quote: “I never wanted to be rich all I've ever wanted to do was to be comfortable, then I realized to be comfortable you've got to be rich!”
What money does is 1. It gives you control over your life, 2. It gives you options, and 3. It allows you to live a life of contribution — to contribute to things if you feel strongly about like your family or your favorite charity.
Peter Drucker calls the era we have entered in as one of the three C's, accelerated Change overwhelming Complexity and tremendous
Competition. So the first step to accumulating wealth is “You must be willing to do the things today others won't do in order to have the things tomorrow others won't have!”
So, we must make Discipline a major force in your life. I know that if I had been more disciplined years ago I would be closer to my goals now. We also must make OK to Fail because that’s how we move forward. I saw a statistic that said 85% of people allow their fear of failure to outweigh their desire to succeed.
It’s not “Anything worth doing is worth doing right.” It’s “Anything worth doing is worth doing badly UNTIL you get it Right!” You don't have to be great to get started but you have to get started to be great! Just know that we have something special, we have talents, we have abilities we don’t even know yet.
We can start by writing down the knowledge we have or have learned and teaching others, e.g., your customers and users of your services. MLSP has done for you training that we can make our own and take action for our own business and also to Pay It Forward to other who want your product or service. We must be committed like the Pig! The next time you have Bacon and Eggs for breakfast remember “the chicken was Involved, the pig was Committed, he had to give it all up! Think about it! [MLSP PRODUCT HERE}
